EXAMPLE MATCH

As shown on the NBL scoresheet (below), Atlanta is playing a home match against Boston.  The Atlanta team has decided that the order of games will be men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles, men's singles, women's doubles, men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles, and mixed doubles.

The Atlanta men's doubles team of Steve Jones and Bob Smith square off against Kevin Kant and George Lewis.  Jones and Smith win the first game 17-14.  Women's singles is next, and Boston's Cindy Mull defeats Kathy Sparks 17-10 to tie the team score at 1-1. Mull then teams with Donna Burke to win the first women's doubles game over Kathy Sparks and Kim Sands to put Boston ahead 2-1.

Men's singles follows, and Boston's Kevin Kant defeats Atlanta's Steve Jones 17-15.  Cindy Mull and Donna Burke return to the court for the second women's doubles match.  After they win the game 17-12, the Boston team has a lead of 4-1.

Atlanta puts in Bob Smith for the second men's singles game, and he defeats Boston's Kevin Kant 17-3.  Boston regains its momentum by winning the next two games, men's doubles and women's singles, to forge ahead 6-2.  Even though there is only one regular event left, the match is far from over.  One mixed doubles game will be played next, and if Atlanta can win it, the match will enter Overtime.

The Atlanta mixed doubles team of Steve Jones and Kim Sands win the mixed doubles 17-15 over George Lewis and Donna Burke.  Even though the score is now Boston 6, Atlanta 3, the match will enter Overtime because the "trailing" team (Atlanta) won the mixed doubles game.  If Atlanta can tie the score without losing a game in the process (in this case, three consecutive games), the match will be decided by a final mixed doubles game.  If Boston wins one game before Atlanta can tie the score, the match is over.

In Overtime, the Atlanta mixed doubles team of Steve Jones and Kim Sands win three consecutive games, against three different Boston mixed doubles combinations, to level the score at 6-6.  The match will be decided by a final game of mixed doubles.  Atlanta stays with Steve Jones and Kim Sands, and Boston tries one final combination: George Lewis and Cindy Mull.  Jones and Sands win the game 17-16, giving Atlanta a dramatic 7-6 come-from-behind victory.
